I decided to delete my development blog, because managing more than one blog was to much effort and recently I started to collect interessting business and technology links at del.icio.us, too.

You can find my del.icio.us link collectino at http://del.icio.us/alex.saar.

Business started

I neglected my blog for such a long time, so I have to write some more facts about the last months. In summer 2005 I started creating a business with some of my colleagues from the HPI. After a long time of business planning and talking to people about market needs and so on, we started our business last week.

The great thing to know is that we are supported by HP-Ventures, a ventrue capital fond founded by Hasso Plattner. Accordingly we moved into the high-tech park of HP-Ventures.

More informations can be found at http://www.mindquarry.com.

Master Thesis started

3 weeks ago I started my master thesis about monitoring of service-oriented applications in the Java EE environment. Results and links to resulting publications will follow, if I have some.

Last Examination

Last week I finished my likely last examination. It was the "Business Process Management II" lecture and I had an oral exam with Prof. Weske.

Microsoft Mail Solutions

Yesterday Guido has sent me a mail containing a CHM file. As likely most of you know MS Outlook blocks critical content like *.exe or *.chm content in e-mails per default. After spending some minutes on searching for a check box that disables this feature, I found the solution proposed by Microsoft in the outlook help guide.

“… If you need to use files, such as .exe files that were sent to you from others, have the sender post the files to a network share or to a Web share that you can access.”

I want to share this here because I think this is a very interesting solution that is surely useful for most users ;-)

Master Thesis Evaluation

A week ago I started discussion with Guido Laures about possible topics for my master thesis. I ask him for business related problems in the area of service oriented architecture and he told me that there is a lack of research in the area of service enablement for non-service oriented applications. In the majority of the cases those applications are mission critical for enterprises and reengineering them in a service oriented way is mostly too expensive and risky.

After searching for corresponding information I found out that in fact there are only a few papers about this topic. Thus I will begin with further research on this in context of a topic in the seminar “Business Process Management II”. After the seminar I will decide if I prepare this topic as my master thesis or not.
